The
pesticide importation process in Belize is a simple one,
which involves compliance with basic requirements. The following
are the basic steps and guidelines that need to be followed
for the importation of pesticides:
- Pesticide
being imported must be registered in Belize, and should
appear in the Belize
Register of Pesticides, or
- If
unregistered, the importer must be in possession of a
valid experimental
permit, minor-use authorization
or a provisional registration;
- Pesticide
import fees must be paid at any of the authorized Pesticides
Control Board representatives, receiving a receipt of
payment;
- Importer
must present all documentation to the Quarantine Officer
at the point of entry, and receive a Pesticide Importation
Certificate;
- Payment
of all relevant Customs duties, BAHA
inspection fees and other relevant taxes (environmental
tax);
- Inspection
of cargo by BAHA Quarantine Officer;
- Consignment
Clearance.
It
is advisable for new importers to check with the Pesticides
Control Board Secretariat prior to ordering of pesticides,
to ensure that the pesticide intended for import is registered
in Belize.
